fresh air at last

dear friends, when I began this week  it was pouring with rain and I was feeling in such a deflated mood, maybe down to the constant barrage of down pours which kept us inside for the best part of three days (and ALL my crafting ideas were exhausted by day one!) or maybe because my camera was (and still is) on the brink of death (all but the picture taking button seem to be broken, which is probably down to the amount of sand poking through every gap in the buttons!) so I have no idea of the amount of  pictures I have on there and the thought of a digital spring clean makes me want to hide my camera in a very dark place  (how can you store a billion photos that are all equally precious in some kind of order?)

Or maybe my low mood was down to the insane amount of clutter I’m trying to figure out how to cleanse from my little life.  I’ve been (very) slowly clearing out our belongings in preparation for the house move and I’ve come to realise I am more of a hoarder than I thought. I mean,  do I really need to keep hold of sequin leggings and killer heels which have not been aired since circa 2010? Nope! but can I throw them away? not a chance! If anything I’m hoping they will be a welcome addition to a fancy dress box in a few years. So, for now, I’m going to leave that little can of worms in its rightful place, in suitcases, in the garage and hope that Big D doesn’t notice….

but now, at the end of the week  (hello Friday!) after some much needed sunshine and out door play and good old fresh air  I’m feeling back to normal and peaceful again even though I have a stinking head cold and I’m pretty certain my head just might explode from the internal pressure all this snot is causing….but before it does I must share some pictures from a beautiful afternoon we spent with friends (before they disappear into my digital black hole) exploring/ searching for dinosaurs/ trying to find the biggest stick and not poke anyone’s eye out….(it was a miracle!)

Thank you, Miss Charlie for sharing the secret! and as for the weekend, what have you planned? We are off to the Salt markets tomorrow- I can’t wait (Big D would rather do anything else than visit another market with me but I’ve promised him he will like it!) and we’ve also managed to arrange a date night.  I can’t remember the last one we had so I best dash and go stick my head under a steam bath.

Happy weekend xxx

10th January 2016

Today, my darling Ralph, you insisted on waking me super early in the morning by whispering “wake up now mummy” continuously in my face.  I love that you are so persistent and don’t give up even if you do have to drag me out of bed by my ankles…..

We woke up to an unusual grey summers day here in Perth but it was a nice break to take a morning walk along the beach without melting at 7:30 in the morning, which turns out is also the same time and place that all of Perth’s lycra wearing fitness addicts do their daily exercise. I happened to be the one counting all the ships/ surfers/ dogs at the top of my voice….

8 things you need to know on becoming a fifo family

when i say becoming a fifo family takes a little of getting used to i mean that in the most obvious sense. because, of course its going to be different, there is someone missing from your family for weeks at a time! and if you don’t feel different, then i guess we have an altogether different kinda problem on our hands….

^^^Ralph practically jumping for joy over Big D’s return^^^

In the two weeks that Big D has been away my head has been full of mush, just the usual run-of-the-mill mush but i have really been struggling to process my thoughts which is annoying, I’ve been falling in a worn out heap tucking myself into bed at 8pm but on the rare occasion I’m not absolutely knackered i have been watching Absolutely Fabulous from the beginnnig (which is still as ace as ever) whilst getting a little drunk on the sofa (after drinking a whole glass of wine-so cool i know!!!) but here is a little bit of what i have learned about the fifo life so far…..

1. you will hear strange scary noises as soon as you switch off your bedside lamp. of course you instantly think that axe murderers are waiting outside your door so you do what any one in your situation would do….hide under the duvet (or just sleep with the light on-those axe-murders will think you’re an insomniac!)

2. you spend most of your bedtime routine doubly, triply checking that all the doors are locked and you may or may not choose to leave some booby traps in the shape of a two year olds toy trucks on the floor by the doors. If those axe-murders do get in they will get really sore feet. If it worked in Home Alone….

3. you can’t blame your other half for zooming through all the loo roll or the wine or the chocolate stash- oopps sorry Big D!

4. even though you have a huge bed and dream of sleeping like a starfish when your partner is home you will probably still just stick to ‘your’ side once they are gone.

5. you will surprise yourself how easily you slip into your new solo parent routine-oh yeah you can just call yourself Supermum. I’m one step away from wearing a superwoman costume 24/7…..

6. you can eat whatever you like. Im a big fan of crunchy vegetables, quinoa and anything cooked from the Honestly Healthy cookbook whereas Big D likes his vegetables cooked to their soggy death, potatoes with everything and meat, lots of it…..

7. you think Skype is the best invention ever. especially at Ralph’s bedtime and especially when Big D can recite the Gruffalo from the start….

8. and when have those days that feel like are never ending just think of all those extra frequent flyer points and start planning a mega holiday!

but the best thing of all, is for sure the return! Welcome home Big D xxx

Sultanas up a nose and my obsession over Winter

So yesterday was eventful!   It began with me turning into a lingering coffee shop/ typing away on my laptop annoyance waiting for Big D to finish work when all I really wanted to do was flop into bed after an insane vinyassa yoga session at Power Living early that morning – oh my goodness talk about a work out and a half, but alas i couldn’t because I  locked myself out of the house. AGAIN. It’s times like these when I really miss not having close friends round the corner so I could  just rock up and flop into their beds!  And the day ended with a $90 trip to an out of hours doctor to remove a sultana that Ralph had managed to lodge so far up his nose we couldn’t even see it anymore…..ah the joys!! Hair raising Saturday!

The Saturday just past we eventually made it to Winterland which is currently taking place in Fremantle (I wanted to go the weekend before but the rain put a stop to that plan).  I personally never need an excuse to venture to good old Freo, quite simply I adore the place even on a busy sunny Saturday afternoon; The streets are bustling, the cafes are spilling out onto the pavement and  the market is jam packed with locals and tourists – Big D on the other hand, well this is his nightmare.  But still, off we went with the most prettiest take out coffee cups in our paws and on the very loose promise that i was sure that i had read somewhere there was going to be a snow machine….. what i missed the most

Uurrghh what a night. Ralph has been full of the flu which by automatic default gains him all night access to the big bed…..and no one got a decent sleep until this morning, after Big D left for work Ralph decided he was ready for sleep and as i’m typing to you now Ralph is snoring his little flu filled head off which he should have been doing during the night instead of asking for storybooks/ trains/ diggers every 30 minutes or so.

But here i am getting off track, i havent spoken to you in such a long time and the first thing i tell you is about our rotten night’s sleep! To be honest i’ve been spending the past few days recovering; I finished my first month long teaching prac on Friday- hurrah! Continue reading

Winter is here

oh my! last time i wrote ramblings on my blog the sun was still hot, hot, hot, i was in my twenties, i was wearing my saltwater sandals to death, (if you don’t own a pair i seriously recommend you buy some-they are THE most comfy sandal in the world, but i do think it has cemented my transition to generic mama-form?!!) my coconut oil wasn’t a solidified rock in the pantry, we didn’t have the winter blankets on our beds and I’m pretty sure my brain had space somewhere amongst all the daily crap i think about to take on more than one thought at once.
